Our Story

“In a world that moves too quickly, where childhood is too often squeezed between schedules and screens, I wanted to create a place where children could simply be. A place where curiosity leads, nature teaches, and mess is celebrated.”

I’m Amy – a primary school teacher with over fifteen years of experience, a mum of four, and the founder of Gentle Explorers. Combining my love of child-led learning with the benefits of nature-based play, I’ve created a space where little ones can explore freely and families can slow down, connect, and enjoy the moment together.

Throughout my career, I’ve seen how deeply children learn when they’re given the freedom to explore, get messy, follow their instincts, and make discoveries in their own time. And as a mum of four, I’ve lived the magic of muddy hands, garden giggles, and proudly presented sticks, alongside the reality of being permanently cold and unable to rely on the English weather. My children have always loved to splash, dig, pour, and explore in every season, and I wanted to say “yes” more often without worrying about the clean‑up or the cold.

This inspired me to imagine an indoor space where nature‑based messy play could happen gently, mindfully, and without pressure. A place where children become fully absorbed in play and parents realise they’ve slowed down enough to absorb the moment too. Every session is designed to feel calm, grounding, and connected. We use natural, sustainable materials that honour the planet. There are no expectations, no rigid activities, no “right way” to play – just open‑ended invitations to explore, leaving parents free to breathe and build meaningful connections with one another.

More than anything, this is a community. A space for families who want to reconnect with nature, with childhood, with themselves and each other. A place where children can grow their confidence, creativity, and love for the outdoors, and where parents can find calm in the chaos and joy in the mess.
